Telaboratoria (te-la-bo-ra-to-ria), or Body Laboratory, is formed from two Russian words "telo" which means body and "laboratoria" - laboratory. Telaboratoria is a free of charge social, therapeutic and creative project that makes spaces for collective empowerment, collaboration, empathy and visibility.
Telaboratoria strives to support Russian LGBTQ+ adults in finding the connection to their bodies, community building and becoming more actively involved citizens. It provides space for the LGBTQ+ communities to become engaged physically, emotionally and, ultimately, politically in a harsh transphobic and homophobic environment of Russia.
Telaboratoria first emerged through individual classes in Moscow, Russia in 2014. LGBT group "Coming Out" and activist Jonny Dzhibladze helped to bring Telaboratoria to St.Petersburg in April 2016. The project has started in October 2017 and currently runs as a weekly ongoing program in St. Petersburg. The program offers two weekly three-hour classes, bimonthly Authentic Movement practice, Cuddle Parties, music jams, workshops with local and international queer movement teachers that are open to both the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.
In addition to the ongoing program in St. Petersburg, Telaboratoria provides one and two-day empowerment through creative dance practices workshops to the regional LGBTQ+ centers, trains regional trans* and queer organizers and helps to establish creative movement programs regionally.
Telaboratoria classes has been taught in Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Samara and in Kiev, Ukraine.
